Therapeutic Yoga

with Barbara Brookens-Harvey and Sara Zabawa.

Creative, nurturing, and transformative: through individual sessions and small group classes, therapeutic yoga offers opportunities for deep transformation and healing.

Therapeutic yoga is the use of the techniques of Yoga to create, stimulate, and maintain an optimum state of physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health. Healing is promoted by increasing self- awareness in the present moment. Breathing exercises, physical posture practice, visualization, and meditation are used to explore thoughts, feelings, body sensations and behavioral patterns in a safe, supportive environment to promote both physical and emotional wellbeing. “Yoga Prescriptions” are given for home practice to promote each individual on their path towards physical and emotional health and wellbeing.

Applications for yoga therapy include:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Trauma
  • Grief and loss
  • Life transitions
  • Body image
  • Self-esteem
  • Physical pain conditions
  • Eating disorders

In addition to individual therapeutic yoga sessions, Hygeia Center offers a number of small group classes geared toward specific therapeutic needs. Please follow the links below for more information:
