Birth can be like a marathon and Dance for Birth classes prepare you for the challenge. You’ll become stronger, more agile, more at ease with your body, and both mentally and physically ready to embrace your unique birth experience. You’ll learn birth dancing movements inspired by ancient dance forms such as Belly dance, African dance, Latin dance, and Caribbean dance. It’s a workout that challenges yet relaxes and uplifts you. No experience necessary, only a desire to have fun!
At the same time you’ll be learning valuable childbirth preparation skills and natural pain coping techniques that will build your confidence in your own birthing ability and wisdom. Birth can be active, ecstatic, orgasmic, trans-formative, empowering! The weekly classes, which combine dance and fitness with essential childbirth preparation skills such as optimal fetal positioning, are the wave of the future of birth and resonate with women.
Dance for Birth prenatal / postpartum dance class participants report experiencing low levels of discomfort, few or no interventions, shorter labors, and high levels of satisfaction during their births. By moving instinctively, using gravity and positioning to their advantage, women can temporarily enlarge the dimensions of their pelvis for the baby’s passage, help their babies rotate and descend, help reduce unnecessary interventions and enjoy natural pain relief.
Babies whose moms take Dance for Birth prenatal / postpartum dance classes love the motion of dancing and are easily soothed after birth by being held while you dance. You’ll regain your pre-pregnancy shape and tone more quickly when you continue Dance for Birth classes with your baby after he or she is born. Dance for Birth is intended for both pregnant women and postpartum women. Babies can be worn during class in either a wrap or sling.
Dance for Birth meets Wednesday evenings from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

About Khaylen Stanton
Khaylen’s love for dance and interest in a woman’s childbearing years started very early on. She has trained in classical ballet, jazz, and modern dance and believes that through dance you can gain a more intimate connection with your own body. Dance is not only a form of art and expression but a way to release stress, exercise, and explore your inner strength.
After studying Engineering at the University of Michigan, Khaylen lived in Chicago for 8 years where she worked in technical sales. Moving to Michigan in June of 2011 with her husband, Khaylen decided it was time to pursue her true passion. She trained as a birth and postpartum doula and is working towards her certification. Through her work as a doula, Khaylen felt there was need in the community for a way in which women could actively prepare for birth while both enjoying and expressing themselves. In an effort to combine her passion for dance and birth, Khaylen, with the encouragement of a very wise mentor and friend, began to develop her own Dance for Birth class.
Khaylen lives in Saline with her husband, Australian Shepard Kona, and cats Oscar and Olivia. She and her husband welcomed their son, Connor this past August. Look for him at class!! When she isn’t dancing or pursuing doula work, Khaylen enjoys cooking, gardening and relaxing with a good book.
